Every team has a draft where they would love a re-do. The Philadelphia 76ers would likely like to have one for the 2018 NBA draft.
Coming off a strong season which ended in a tough Round 2 loss to the Boston Celtics, the Sixers were on the upswing. They were led by the duo of Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons and Philadelphia was looking to add to its roster.
With the No. 10 pick, the Sixers selected Villanova’s Mikal Bridges, but then traded him to the Phoenix Suns for the No. 16 pick which turned out to be Zhaire Smith. Not to bring back tough times, but it’s a move that simply did not work out for the Sixers.
A 2018 draft re-do done by HoopsHype has the Sixers selecting Alabama guard Collin Sexton at No. 10:
A bulldog combo guard who plays with high intensity on both ends of the floor, Collin Sexton is the type of player who can do damage both as a starter and coming off the bench. Like Simons, it would be interesting to see how Sexton fares in a non-losing situation. Maybe on an elite team, Sexton would be better used as a bucket-getting change-of-pace backup guard, like the Jason Terrys of yesteryear. Regardless, at least individually, Sexton has pretty much lived up to pre-draft expectations.
Sexton would have been an interesting add to that team in 2018. His presence would have allowed Simmons to play more off the ball and he would have provided a perimeter scorer who could take guards off the dribble. He’s also a career 38.7% shooter from deep which would have helped space the floor as well.
