It looks like Spencer Rattler is going to have a different jersey number in his second year with the New Orleans Saints. Last summer, Rattler indicated that he wouldn’t be keeping No. 18 after choosing it as a rookie — and now it appears he’s kept good on his word. The unofficial “NFL Jersey Numbers” account on Twitter/X announced that Rattler is switching to the No. 2 jersey for 2025, which Rattler shared with a retweet to his official account. This move has not yet been reflected on the team’s official website roster.
Rattler wore No. 7 at both South Carolina and Oklahoma in college, but he did use No. 2 at Pinnacle High School in Arizona, and at last year’s Senior Bowl, so it’s not really a new look for him. What’s curious is that No. 2 went unused through all of the 2024 season after backup QB Kellen Mond used it during spring practices. There was speculation that Chris Olave or Alontae Taylor could have taken it, having both worn it in college, but it seems they’re both sticking with their established jersey numbers.
But maybe wait until the change is official to order your own Rattler jersey. Numbers change hands often in the offseason and it shouldn’t shock anyone if the No. 2 jersey changes hands again between now and the season starting in September.
