See the bonus Tom Izzo will receive for Michigan State reaching Sweet 16
Michigan State basketball reaching the Sweet 16 has resulted in some more money in the pocket of longtime hall of fame coach Tom Izzo.
Many coaches across the country have bonuses baked into their contracts for when their team reaches the Sweet 16, and that includes Izzo. With Michigan State knocking off New Mexico on Sunday night and advancing to the second weekend of the NCAA Tournament, Izzo will now receive a $75,000 bonus this year, according to Front Office Sports.
Other coaches to receive a nice bonus due to their team’s NCAA Tournament success includes Tennessee’s Rick Barnes ($200,000), Houston’s Kelvin Sampson ($100,000) and Maryland’s Kevin Willard ($75,000). From the Big Ten, Dusty May of Michigan will receive a $25,000 bonus and Purdue’s Matt Painter will receive a $30,000 bonus.
Michigan State will face No. 6 seed Ole Miss in the Sweet 16 on Friday in Atlanta. The game is scheduled to tip off at 7:09 p.m. ET. Should the Spartans get by the Rebels and advance to the Elite Eight, they’ll face the winner of No. 1 seed Auburn and No. 5 seed Michigan on Sunday afternoon.
