Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh government has started adopting phase-wise energy-efficient cooking by using induction stoves at 11,400 anganwadi centres (AWCs) in the state. The same will be expanded soon in all 55,607 AWCs in the state.
AP women and child welfare secretary Surya Kumari and director Venu Gopal Reddy will meet a three-member technical team from Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) in New Delhi on Monday for expediting implementation of the National Efficient Cooking Programme and introduction of induction stoves and appropriate cooking utensils at all AWCs in the state.
Importantly, AP is set to save ₹24 crore annually by adopting the National Efficient Cooking Programme at all 55,607 AWCs in the days to come. According to an estimate, this will help avoid 28,327 tonnes of CO2 emissions.
The Bureau of Energy Efficiency in a statement here said on Sunday that replacing LPG with induction cooking has multiple benefits, including energy efficiency, financial savings, cut in carbon emissions, enhanced safety as it eliminates open flames and reduced risk of fire hazards and burns.
The cooking environment also becomes safer and comfortable for anganwadi workers, especially during the hot summer.
