Following his 2024 saga with the Miami Dolphins and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, veteran pass rusher Shaq Barrett plans to play again in 2025.
“He’s definitely going to play this year,” Barrett’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, told JoeBucsFan.com.
Barrett, 32, signed with the Dolphins last spring and then retired in the summer. He announced his intention to unretire last November, but Miami initially blocked him from returning from the reserve/retired list.
The Dolphins later changed course in December and waived Barrett, allowing him to sign with another club. Barrett then signed with the Bucs and finished the season in Tampa.
The pass rusher now plans to play again in 2025, but it remains to be seen where he will land. Barrett originally entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent out of Colorado State with the Denver Broncos in 2014. He spent the first five years of his career in Denver and won Super Bowl 50 with the Broncos before joining the Bucs and winning a second title.
With 125 quarterback hits and 59 career sacks on his resume, Barrett should be able to land a role as a rotational pass rusher somewhere in the NFL.
