With a view to sort out contentious issues around water, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have agreed to set up a joint committee with to look into all pending issues of both sides.
The committee, which will be set up in a week, will discuss all the long-pending water projects on Krishna and Godavari river basins, in Telangana. It will come out with a report in a month.
The decision was reached at a tripartite meeting with Jal Shakti Minister, N Chandrababu Naidu and A Revanth Reddy, Chief Ministers of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, respectively, and officials from the two States.
Middle ground
Addressing a conference in New Delhi on Wednesday, Reddy said the two sides have agreed to install telemetry devices at all water projects and reservoirs to measure actual water usage.
The two sides have also agreed to a proposal to house the Godavari River Management Board in Telangana and the Krishna River Management Board in Andhra Pradesh.
“We also raised the issue around the health of the Srisailam Dam. Andhra Pradesh has agreed to our proposal to take up repair works at the project immediately
