Communist Party of India (Marxist) State secretary M.V. Govindan has said that the proposed brewery at Elappully in Palakkad, Kerala, will be implemented only after addressing concerns raised by all stakeholders. He said further discussions would be held with the Communist Party of India (CPI) and other parties to resolve any disagreements.
“The government has not altered its liquor police. The CPI and the JDS should clarify why they are unable to understand the issue,” Mr. Govindan told reporters in Kannur on Wednesday (January 29, 2025). He said only the initial phase of discussion has taken place.
Water concerns
Dismissing concerns over water scarcity, he said the project would operate using rainwater harvesting and would not impact drinking water availability. He also accused the Congress of “advocating for the interests of the Karnataka spirit lobby.”
Mr. Govindan reiterated that the CPI would engage in discussion with those opposing the project and emphasised that the government remains committed to taking all perspectives into account before moving forward.
