Chhattisgarh: CBI raids places linked to 2 former IAS officers for ‘influencing’ NAN cases

The CBI has conducted searches on premises allegedly linked to former joint secretary and former principal secretary and recovered some incriminating documents after an FIR was registered for allegedly influencing proceedings of Nagrik Apurti Nigam (NAN) and ED cases.

On April 16, after taking over the investigation from Chhattisgarh’s EOW, the CBI on Friday registered an FIR against three persons — Anil Tuteja, IAS (retd), then joint secretary, Dr Alok Shukla, IAS (retd), then principal secretary, and Satish Chandra Verma, then Advocate General, and conducted the searches.

According to the FIR, the accused abused their official position to influence ongoing proceedings in NAN case registered in 2015 against them at EOW/ACB, Raipur, and ED case registered in 2019 on the basis of the NAN case. The FIR pertains to stints of the three accused during the previous Congress government (2019-23) in the state.The ED had lodged an Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR) under the PMLA based on the FIR and chargesheet filed by the Chhattisgarh ACB/EOW in the alleged scam.

The FIR states that as per digital evidence seized by the I-T Department, the accused made several attempts to allegedly frustrate the proceedings in NAN cases, and allegedly provided inappropriate benefits to Verma to motivate him to perform public duty in an improper manner and secure anticipatory bail for themselves in the ED and EOW/ACB cases.

It was also alleged in the FIR that to seek anticipatory bail, the accused changed the documents related to procedural and departmental work of senior officers in the State Economic Offences Investigation Bureau, and also the reply to be filed in the high court in the NAN cases.
