Chhattisgarh: PLGA’s Platoon Pf Top Naxals Hit Hard In July 18 Abujhmad Encounter

Bhopal: The PLGA’s platoon number one, responsible for the security of top Naxal leaders during their movement, have been hit hard in Friday’s encounter in Abujhmad under Narayanpur district in south Bastar of Chhattisgarh with the elimination of its commander and five members.

Six Maoists including four females were on Friday killed in the encounter with the security forces in the dense forests of Pariya- Kakur in Abujhmad area of Narayanpur district.

“All the six slain Maoists have been identified”, Bastar range inspector general of police Sunderraj P said on Saturday.

The deceased six Naxals included Rahul Punem, a divisional committee member (DVCM) and commander of the platoon number one of PLGA (People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army).

“The neutralization of Rahul Punem, commander of PLGA’s platoon number one- which was primarily used for ensuring safe movement of senior Maoist leaders- is considered a significant setback for Naxals in Abujhmad”, Mr. Sunderraj said.

The other five slain Naxals including four women were members of the platoon number one, police said. Each carried a bounty of Rs eight lakh. Huge cache of arms, ammunition and explosives were also recovered at the encounter site.

The seized weapons included one A K 47 rifle, one SLR rifle, 11 barrel grenade launchers (BGLs), one 12 bore rifle, 83 BGL shells and a large quantity of explosives, Narayanpur district superintendent of police Robinson Guria said. With the killing of six Maoists, the number of slain Naxals in Bastar has gone up to 204 in the current year so far.

Acting on specific intelligence inputs on the presence of Maoists in a particular area in Abujhmad, a joint search operation was launched by the security forces on Friday. An encounter took place between them on Friday afternoon.
