Clay Matthews would love to see the Packers draft some defensive talent

As the resident Dallas Cowboys person around SB Nation, I often find myself in situations wondering how I got there. That happened to me again on Wednesday.

While the Cowboys have a lot of rivals — basically every human being on the internet — in modern times I would say that the Green Bay Packers are at the very top of that list. They are responsible for some of my worst memories as far as sports are concerned.

Guess who got to talk to Clay Matthews on Wednesday, though!?

In all seriousness, Clay Matthews was an incredible defender in the NFL. He had an amazing career that saw him win Super Bowl XLV (in the home building of the Cowboys no less) and continues to have awesome partnerships with companies related to or around the league.

You can watch our entire conversation below.

Clay was jovial about the fact that I cover the Cowboys and even offered some thoughts on the shape that they are in these days, but obviously I had to get his thoughts on the Packers what with the NFL Draft beginning on Thursday and from Green Bay.

Matthews noted that the Packers have a ton of pieces who are very exciting and expressed a lot of confidence and belief in Jordan Love and the rest of the offense. He said it would be nice to see them add a defensive star though, although he is obviously a bit biased towards that side of the ball.

Our community mock draft here at SB Nation had the Packers taking Texas A&M EDGE Shemar Stewart. I would certainly say that this fits that bill.

Among the other things that Clay and I discussed was his partnership with Lowe’s and how they are why he is in Green Bay specifically for the draft.

Clay joined on behalf of Lowe’s, Lowe’s has designed the Draft Green Room Built by Lowe’s for the 2025 NFL Draft – a room where the next wave of NFL stars will experience comfort, sophistication and a sense of celebration before being called. This year’s Draft Green Room Built by Lowe’s embraces a refined rustic aesthetic, thoughtfully inspired by a luxury cigar lounge. NFL fans can head to Lowes.com to shop for the same products used in the Draft Green Room Built by Lowe’s, the Official Home Improvement Partner of the NFL Following the Draft, Lowe’s will donate the products to Habitat for Humanity International.

Our thanks to Clay and to Lowe’s for the time!
