It’s been relatively quiet on the injury front for the Washington Commanders over the first week-and-a-half of training camp. Unfortunately, during Saturday’s practice, projected starting left guard Brandon Coleman limped off the field, per Ben Standig
Head coach Dan Quinn met with the media before practice, so there was no further update on Coleman. Washington is off on Sunday, so the next time Quinn speaks will be on Monday morning.
Veteran Andrew Wylie replaced Coleman. Wylie, the starter at right tackle for the last two years, has taken first-team reps at right tackle with rookie Josh Conerly Jr., and also spelled Laremy Tunsil at left tackle when the veteran receives a day off.
Coleman, a third-round pick out of TCU in the 2024 NFL draft, played in 16 games as a rookie, starting 12 — all at left tackle. Coleman played well at left tackle for much of the season, but NFL analysts long said his most natural position was inside at guard.
Washington’s projected starting lineup is Tunsil, Coleman, Tyler Biadasz (C), Sam Cosmi (RG) and Conerly/Wylie. Conerly will eventually take over at right tackle, but the position will be earned.
As for Coleman, the Commanders can also play last year’s starting left guard, Nick Allegretti, in his place. Allegretti has also received some work at right guard with Cosmi recovering from offseason knee surgery. Quinn said the team isn’t ruling out a Week 1 return for Cosmi.
We’ll provide updates on Coleman once we have them.
