The Washington Commanders front office is busy with the 2025 NFL draft, currently taking place in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The players reported for offseason workouts this week, but they took a break on Wednesday to root for their favorite hockey team: the Washington Capitals.

The Capitals are currently in the first round of the NHL Stanley Cup playoffs and lead the Montreal Canadiens two games to none. Earlier this month, Caps’ star Alex Ovechkin scored his 895th career goal, which broke Wayne Gretzky’s record.

Sporting their Ovechkin jerseys, Commanders rookie quarterback Sam Hartman and starting quarterback Jayden Daniels can be seen cheering on the Caps.

Okay, it’s in between periods, so they’re not actually cheering on the Capitals because they’re not on the ice. No, they’re actually cheering on Hartman, who is chugging a beer in the front row next to Daniels.

One of the best things any team can do is bond with each other off the field, on the court, or on whatever surface they play on. Having the players attend events and participate in non-football activities is the best way to create that bond. It’s not just about knowing how a guy plays on the field; it’s about understanding them as a person so you have a better idea of what they will do on the field. Routes get adjusted, plays get changed, and the players need to be able to support each other in their roles.

But for now, seeing them let loose and cheer for their fellow athletes puts everyone in a good mood.
