The Coromandel Fertilisers Employees Union, Visakhapatnam, distributed tricycles and hearing aids to differently-abled persons as part of its Trade Union Social Responsibility (TUSR) programme at the plant premises recently.
The TUSR, formed in 2013, has been organising service activities in the city and surrounding areas for the past 12 years. The annual service activities include: distribution of books, stationery and merit scholarships to children of the Government School for the Visually Challenged, tricycles and wheelchairs to needy persons, sewing machines, and distribution of food and provisions to inmates of orphanages, said union president Ch. Narasinga Rao.
Impressed by the activities of TUSR, the management of Coromandel Fertilisers had started granting matching funds for every rupee collected from the employees for TUSR activities. The union had distributed around 250 tricycles, wheelchairs and other aids to the needy, apart from spending around ₹60 lakh for the welfare of people living in the areas surrounding the plant.
The union has also been organising voluntary blood donation camps every year for needy patients, who require blood in emergencies. In the TUSR programme held on October 21, six tricycles, 12 wheelchairs, and other supportive aids were distributed to needy persons. Financial aid to needy students for pursuing higher studies and equipment for orphanages. Around ₹8.5 lakh was spent on TUSR activities this year, according to Coromandel Fertilisers Employees Union general secretary SM Basha.
