Derek Carr made the surprising decision to retire from the NFL on Saturday, leaving the game of football due to a shoulder injury that requires surgery. His immediate future with the New Orleans Saints has been in question all offseason, which is why the team drafted Tyler Shough in the second round, but few expected him to retire.
Now that Carr is done, there’s only one quarterback from the 2014 draft who remains on an active roster: Jimmy Garoppolo.
Every other quarterback from the class is either a free agent or retired, from Blake Bortles to Garrett Gilbert. Garoppolo is the last man standing, currently on a one-year deal with the Rams.
Garoppolo hasn’t been a starter since 2023 when he was with the Raiders but he’s been a quality backup for the Rams. In his 11-year career so far, Garoppolo has played 82 games, made 64 starts and thrown 96 touchdown passes.
Among all quarterbacks who were drafted in 2014, Garoppolo has the second-highest career earnings with $154 million made. Only Carr ($205 million) has earned more than Garoppolo.
