With the 2025 season on the horizon, the Detroit Lions‘ training camp has led to a number of injuries ahead of the start of preseason. Rookie safety, a former Georgia Bulldog and seventh-round 2025 NFL draft pick, Dan Jackson, in particular, has been placed on the team’s injured reserve list. According to Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell, the prognosis for Jackson is “grim,” suggesting he will be sidelined for an extended period.
According to ESPN, Jackson is expected to miss an extended period of time with an injury to his lower leg during practice on Monday. Campbell was very short with his update about the rookie safety.
“It doesn’t look good,” said Campbell. “We are sending this out to a few more places, but it looks like he is going to be down for a while.”
Jackson is likely out for the foreseeable future. He will miss the Lions’ preseason opener against the Atlanta Falcons on Aug. 8.
Throughout his college career, Jackson contributed more to the Georgia defense. He was arguably the most consistent player on defense this past season. His interception against Alabama and notably his forced fumble on Haynes King against Georgia Tech were his most notable plays last season. His path from being a walk-on to draft pick is one of the better stories in Georgia football history.
