DeVonta Smith shares a glowing review of a rookie Eagles teammate,

We’re a long way from discussing DeVonta Smith or members of the current Philadelphia Eagles rookie class as potential Pro Football Hall of Fame inductees. Still, it is reasonable to suggest that they’d understand a statement we’ve all heard, as some of them have said it, because that statement is about respect.

This isn’t an exact quote, but when Brian Dawkins was robbed of his first-ballot induction, he shared a similar theory expressed by Warren Sapp after the same thing happened to him. Rather than wallow in the disappointment, they chose to be happy that so many of the football immortals knew who they were.

Sure, they were eventually inducted, and again, it isn’t time to make DeVonta’s argument yet. The point is that there is a glow pro athletes carry when their peers recognize them.

Smith is a role model for some of the young Eagles. Gaining his respect would greatly boost a rookie’s confidence, and look, one of them has already caught his attention.

DeVonta Smith gives Andrew Mukuba

We learned a lot during spring practices, lessons that we hope will carry over into the summer. One of those lessons is that Andrew Mukuba is as good as advertised.

Smith hung out with the media following his fourth annual DeVonta Smith Celebrity Softball All-Star Game at Coca-Cola Park. He was asked about the rookie who has impressed him most. His answer? How about a hand for that rookie safety?

OTAs are in our rearview mirror. Training camp is on the horizon. There was already some buzz surrounding Mukuba’s name. There will be even more after this.
