Former New England Patriots quarterback Drew Bledsoe revealed one aspect of Drake Maye’s game that he especially likes. Here’s a hint: It’s not when Maye stays in the pocket.

Maye showed he was fleet of foot in his rookie season by recording 421 rushing yards and two touchdowns in 13 games. He averaged 7.8 yards per carry in the process. His rushing ability was on full display on multiple occasions, particularly in the Week 9 game against the Tennessee Titans, when he rushed for 95 yards.

“It’s such a great weapon and something, quite honestly, I’m a little bit jealous of. It was not a big part of my game, obviously,” Bledsoe told Kay Adams on “Up and Adams”. “… I’m not necessarily saying he should run more, but the ability to do that really changes him. You watch Pat Mahomes, it seems like every game, Pat would make one big play running the ball. Obviously, he’s magic throwing the ball. It just always seemed like in crunch time he’d pull it down to run for that first down that was just a backbreaker, and I think Drake Maye has the ability to do that.”

It will be fun seeing how returning offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels utilizes Maye’s running abilities in the Patriots’ offense. Granted, some of the runs were unscripted and a result of poor offensive line play.

The Patriots addressed the offensive line in the offseason, which could pay major dividends for Maye in 2025.
