Five students of a private college at Saravanampatti near Coimbatore suffered injuries after the car they were travelling in crashed into a tree late on Monday (July 28, 2025).
The injured have been identified as Nithin Karu, 22, of Thoothukudi, Santhosh Kumar, 20, of Vilangudi in Madurai, Akash Kumar, 22, of Samypuram Colony in Sivakasi, Kishore Kumar, 22, and Imaya Varamban, 19, of Kumbakonam in Thanjavur.
The accident occurred at Village Nagar bus stop on Coimbatore-Sathyamangalam Road around 11.30 p.m.

The police said that Mr. Nithin Karu drove a sedan in a rash and negligent manner. He lost control of the car and it crashed into a tamarind tree on the side of the road.
Mr. Nithin Karu and Mr. Santhosh Kumar, both fourth-year engineering students, suffered head injuries and fractures on lower limbs. Mr. Akash Kumar, also a fourth-year engineering student, sustained minor injuries, while Mr. Kishore Kumar suffered a head injury and a fracture on left leg. Mr. Imaya Varamban, a third-year architecture student, suffered minor injuries.
All the injured were admitted to a private hospital at Kurumbapalayam. The condition of Mr. Nithin Karu and Mr. Santhosh Kumar was critical.
The Kovilpalayam police registered a case and launched an investigation.
