Former Ohio University guard AJ Brown is scheduled to be on campus Tuesday for an official visit with Florida basketball, according to reports from Gators Online’s Zach Abolverdi.
Brown, a 6-foot-4-inch redshirt junior, has two years of eligibility left and brings experience and scoring ability to the table. Interestingly enough, Brown has a connection with the Gators as he is the older brother of Florida guard Isaiah Brown. That family tie could play a big role in the Gators’ pursuit.
According to Abolverdi, the Florida basketball coaching staff is optimistic about landing Brown, and with good reason.
Brown is the second transfer portal target to visit Gainesville this offseason, following Princeton guard Xaivian Lee–who committed to the Gators after his trip.
Brown’s size, athleticism and experience make him an intriguing fit for head coach Todd Golden’s system–especially with his familiarity around the program through his brother.
Brown averaged 13.2 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 29 starts for the Bobcats this past season. His maturity and familiarity with high-level competition could make him an immediate contributor if he chooses the Orange and Blue.
It’s evident that the Gators are being aggressive in their efforts to rebuild their backcourt. If Brown commits, it would be another strong step toward solidifying Florida’s new-look backcourt.
