India has become a ‘trusted geography’ for electronic companies to “Make in India”, Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister of Electronics and Information Technology, said on Friday.
“All developed countries are importing products from India, whether it is North America or South America or Europe or Japan or some Southeast Asian nations. We will broaden and deepen this entire spectrum as we develop more products with volumes,” Vaishnaw told reporters on the sidelines of an event.
The Minister said the recently announced Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS) would take the Indian electronics ecosystem to more heights in terms of exports.
Global reputation
“Today, India is known for (its) quality of products and a trusted manufacturer and designer in the world. The biggest trust that India gains from other countries will be in two important areas – respect for IP (intellectual property) rights and the talents that we have in terms of design capabilities. In the next four-five years, there will be exponential growth in electronics manufacturing under the Modi government and we are working with all the State governments to achieve that target,” he added.
Inaugurating VVDN Technologies’ SMT (Surface Mount Technology) Line at Manesar, Vaishnaw noted that electronics manufacturing in India has risen five-fold in the last decade topping ₹11 lakh crore. Exports have grown six times during this period, crossing ₹3.25 lakh crore and the ecosystem has generated 25 lakh jobs, he said.
Electronics hub
India’s design capabilities have paved the way for complex products – from AI cameras to automobile electronics and telecom network equipment to power electronics – being designed here, adding to India’s sheen as an electronics hub, the Minister said.
Meanwhile, when asked about expectations from US Vice-President JD Vance’s visit next week, especially in terms of electronics and mobile manufacturing, Vaishnaw exuded confidence and said that the outcome is expected to be positive.
“There will be (a) very positive outcome is what I can say. We have developed a good confidence because we have approached this entire thing in a pragmatic and agile way, and we have continuously engaged (with each other),” Vaishnaw added.
