As more details emerge from Tuesday’s terror attack on tourists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has confirmed that people from the state are among the ‘victims’. The assault, which claimed at least 20 tourists and injured 10, has sparked national outrage and prompted urgent intervention by state and central leaders.

“I strongly condemn the heinous terror attack on tourists in Pahalgam, J&K. Kannadigas are among the victims of this shocking incident,” Siddaramaiah posted on X, expressing solidarity with the affected families.

The Chief Minister convened an emergency meeting with top officials, including the Chief Secretary and senior police officers. “I have also spoken to the Resident Commissioner in Delhi,” he said.

Acting on his directives, two separate teams — one comprising senior administrative officers and another of police personnel — have been dispatched to Jammu and Kashmir to coordinate with local authorities and extend support to the victims. An adventure team from the state’s Sports Department, led by Commissioner Chethan, is also being sent to aid the efforts on the ground.

“We are closely monitoring the developments. All necessary support will be extended. Please be assured, the Government of Karnataka stands firmly with those affected,” Siddaramaiah assured.

The attack, carried out by suspected militants in Baisaran — a popular, off-road tourist meadow near Pahalgam — marks the first such incident targeting tourists in Kashmir this year. Among the 10 injured, a few are said to be in critical condition, and the situation remains tense as security forces continue combing operations in the area.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah headed for Jammu and Kashmir soon after Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to him from Saudi Arabia and asked him to visit the Union Territory, the Home Minister tweeted.

In Srinagar, Shah will hold an urgent security review meeting with all the agencies.
