Belthangady: Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Sunday assured strict action in the case where a student was reportedly forced to remove his janivara (sacred thread), stating that the government is committed to taking action against anyone found guilty, regardless of who they are.

“The government will not interfere in matters of religious practice. Our government is committed to preserving every religion. There is no need for anyone to worry. Our government will work to take everyone along,” he stated while speaking at the inauguration of a new building of the Vokkaliga Seva Sangha and Vani Education Trust in Belthangady.

“People should not worry. Our government is inclusive and aims to take everyone along. Every religion preaches the same essence—devotion, faith, and values. We are born into caste and religion without a choice, and despite our words, our birth and death often remind us of them,” he remarked.

Shivakumar also touched upon criticism directed at him and his government, saying, “Let people criticize. It gives us a chance to correct ourselves. Criticism fades, but our work remains. We can only improve if we identify our own flaws.”

Appealing to the public, Shivakumar urged people to extend their support to maths (religious monasteries) and educational institutions. “Temples, schools, and spiritual centers are the soul of our culture. Just as we protect our homes, we must also protect these institutions,” he said.
