Kerala has made progress despite the negative approach of the Union government, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said Monday as his Left Democratic Front (LDF) entered its 10-year.
Vijayan was inaugurating celebrations being held in Kasaragod to mark nine years of his government being in office. The state had seen several disasters – from the floods of 2018 and the COVID-19 pandemic to the Wayanad landslides last year – during his tenure, he said. “…at no juncture did we get the required assistance from the Centre, which had adopted a negative approach towards the state,” he said. “They had even prevented the aid from others. Let the state collapse, let it collapse further… The Centre was guided by this destructive mentality. But people have joined hands with the government to ensure the survival of the state”.
He added: “Though they (the Centre) wanted Kerala to fall apart, they were made to give several awards for the state as the No 1 on various sectors”.
The CPI(M) Government has announced a series of programmes in all 14 districts in the state to mark the LDF government’s ninth anniversary. With the LDF looking for a third term in the assembly election next year, Vijayan continues to remain the face of the government, being the primary leader in the party’s promotional programmes.
Over the next two weeks, the CM will inaugurate several district-level programmes and interact with around 500 people invited to these programmes. The CM has also convened regional meetings to evaluate the progress of various infrastructure projects.
Meanwhile, the Congress-led United Democratic Front Opposition has boycotted all celebrations.
“The state is going through an unprecedented financial crisis,” Opposition Leader VD Satheesan said. “The government has completely neglected the weaker sections. While coastal areas are facing hunger, the people in the hilly regions are living under threat from wild life. Various welfare schemes have come to a standstill in the state”.
