Hyderabad: Union Coal Minister G Kishan Reddy here on Thursday said the Congress and MIM leaders used Waqf properties to increase their political power.
“A large number of community halls were constructed under benami names within the Waqf Board’s purview. Their income is being used by Darussalam, not benefiting poor Muslims. Therefore, transparent changes are being brought through Waqf Amendment Bill-2025 Thus, all Waqf lands will be digitized, audited annually, and monitored through geo-tagging,” he said.
Kishan Reddy was speaking after inaugurating a workshop on “Waqf Sudhar Janajagaran Abhiyan” at BJP State office in Nampally here.
In Telangana, the Waqf board has 77,000 acres of land and 35,000 properties. The Congress government and MIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi should provide details of their income and how much help has been provided to poor Muslims so far.
“If Owaisi and Congress leaders have the courage, they should tell us how many people have received justice from the Waqf Board in the last 75 years,” he said, adding that it was the Central government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi that abolished Triple Talaq and provided protection to Muslim women.
Kishan Reddy said a majority of the Muslim community was welcoming the Waqf Amendment Bill. The Central government has made changes to it with sincerity and keeping the country’s interests in mind. However, Owaisi and Congress leaders were spreading false propaganda for the Muslim vote bank and were trying to plunder Waqf properties, he said.
The Union Minister further stated the management of mosques and Waqf lands were different. “We warn the leaders not to incite people by combining these two. Mosques are not under the Waqf board. They have separate committees. Similarly, endowment lands and temple committees were different. Do not link these issues,” he said.
Kishan Reddy said the Muslim community was supporting Modi for the Waqf Amendment Bill. The BJP will organize meetings at the district level to clear peoples’ doubts. “We request everyone to work towards gaining public support for the Waqf Amendment Bill,” he said.
According to Kishan Reddy, after Railways and Defense wings, the Waqf board has huge land in the country. However, the income from these lands did not benefit poor Muslims. The benefits of Waqf board were only reaped by MIM leaders, religious heads, land grabbers, and real estate companies.
“Can Owaisi and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi tell us how much benefit the poor Muslims have received from the Waqf board? They are supporting the propaganda of the land mafia. In reality, the income from Waqf board lands is not benefiting poor Muslims,” he said.
In 2006, the extent of Waqf properties was 4.9 lakh acres, while the income was only Rs.160 crore. By 2013, it had only reached Rs.166 crore, he added.
