The New York Liberty got Jonquel Jones back this week, then lost her for even more time.

The team announced the reigning Finals MVP will be out for 4-6 weeks due to ankle sprain from Thursday’s game against the Phoenix Suns, but noted she had ” avoided a long-term injury.” The injury occurred in the second quarter, with Jones falling to the ground in clear pain and limping to the locker room.

This sprain was aggravation of the injury Jones sustained earlier this month, under similar circumstances. She missed the Liberty’s next two games but was back on Tuesday, posting 10 points and 10 rebounds against the Atlanta Dream.

At age 31, Jones has continued to be a force down low for the Liberty. The former MVP has averaged 14.9 points, 11.1 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.9 blocks in her seven full games with the 10-2 Liberty this season.
