Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Saturday (March 29, 2025) alleged that the “merciless” BJP-led Union government has been striving to wind up the Mahatma Gandhi National Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGA), which was launched by the UPA regime as “a backbone and blood of the rural economy.”

“Those who do not like Gandhi also do not like the employment scheme in his name,” he said in a message on social media, in connection with a demonstration organised by the DMK to highlight the ‘failure’ of the BJP government in releasing funds for the scheme.

He said the BJP government, which had “waived off lakhs of crores borrowed by corporate houses through a single signature”, was not ready to release money for the poor, who toil hard to earn a living. “Don’t you have money or heart?” he asked.

“Let the voice of the DMK cadre and the poor reach Delhi and move the sadist BJP government,” he said.
