New York Giants wide receiver Jalin Hyatt, a former third-round pick who has been used sparingly by the club in his first two seasons, may see his usage rise this season now that veteran Russell Wilson has been brought in at quarterback.

Wilson has made it a point to mention Hyatt as a possible weapon this season and even had “secret” workouts this offseason in Los Angeles and Atlanta.

“When you see what Russ has done since he’s got here, within the first two weeks he’s bringing Jalin Hyatt out to L.A. and they’re working out privately,” assistant general manager Brandon Brown told reporters Thursday. “He’s getting all the skill guys together down in Atlanta. Earlier this week, scheduling a dinner with the O-Line and running backs.”

Hyatt, a speedster who once scored five touchdowns in a game versus mighty Alabama while at Tennessee, has become somewhat of an afterthought in East Rutherford. The emergence of players such as Wan’Dale Robinson and Malik Nabers has left little on the bone for Hyatt.

This year, it could be Hyatt’s turn to emerge.

Maybe that changes with Wilson, the top-rated deep thrower in the NFL last year, under center now.

“Jalin Hyatt, he’s a guy that I really believe in,” Wilson said on Thursday.

Wilson has had no reservations when it comes to targeting Hyatt thus far in practices. He also has been getting more reps with the first team.

It’s clear that Wilson sees something in Hyatt and intends to lean heavily on him this season.
