As free agency in the NBA begins on Monday night, the New York Knicks have a different major decision to make regarding their franchise.

Of course, that decision involves their search for a new head coach after they elected to fire Tom Thibodeau after the season in a shocking move after he helped lead them to the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since 2000.

New York began their coaching search by reaching out to many teams around the league to set up meeting with coaches already hired, including Ime Udoka of the Houston Rockets and Jason Kidd of the Dallas Mavericks.

To nobody’s surprise, every team the Knicks reached out to denied their request, making their coaching search even more difficult.

Since then, the Knicks have met with multiple head coaching candidates but one that has stood out thus far is former Sacramento Kings head coach Mike Brown and a major update was provided on Monday regarding the two sides.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Brown is set to have a second meeting with the Knicks for their head coaching job this week and has emerged as a strong candidate.

Of course, Brown was fired by the Kings in December after their disappointing start to the season.

During his time in Sacramento, Brown posted a 107-88 record and led the Kings to the playoffs during the 2022-23 season, their first playoff appearance since the 2005-06 campaign.

Despite his success in Sacramento that led them back to the playoffs and helped him win Coach of the Year, the Kings felt that it was time for a change and now Brown could end up as the new head coach of the Knicks.

While that may be the case, New York does have other candidates in line as well but after Charania’s report, it seems as though Brown has emerged as the top candidate for the position.
