The Lok Sabha, on Thursday (April 3, 2025) will discuss The Coastal Shipping Bill, 2024, moved by Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.
The Waqf Amendment Bill was passed by the Lok Sabha on Wednesday (April 2, 2025) after a marathon 12-hour debate that ran well past the midnight. The Bill was passed after a division of votes, with 288 MPs voting in favour and 232 against. Several clauses moved by the Opposition were also negated.

While Opposition members said that the Bill was aimed against the Muslim community, BJP MPs said that the Bill was only about properties and not religious practices. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, making an intervention during the debate, said that a manager/administrator of a Waqf — a charitable endowment — and the donor can only be from the Muslim community. Non-Muslims have been included in a Waqf Board or Council for administrative purposes and that too to ensure that any donation is being used for the purpose it is meant for, he added.

In Rajya Sabha today, Amit Shah will move the resolution on declaring President’s rule in Manipur.
