Bengaluru: Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Saturday toured the Vande Bharat Express to be flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday. Preparations are underway at the KSR Railway Station ahead of the PM’s visit, where he will flag off three Vande Bharat Express trains.
Speaking to ANI, Vaishnaw said, “It’s a matter of great happiness that a long-pending demand for Vande Bharat between Belagavi and Bengaluru will be flagged off by PM Modi tomorrow. This will provide very good connectivity to North Karnataka and Bengaluru, which is the IT capital of the country. Two more trains will be flagged off — one connecting Katra Vaishno Devi to Amritsar, and another between Nagpur and Pune.”
He highlighted that the Katra–Amritsar train will serve a large number of pilgrims, while the Nagpur–Pune service will meet the travel demand between two major industrial and technological hubs.
Vaishnaw praised PM Modi for introducing Amrit Bharat Express trains, describing them as affordable services for low and lower-middle-income passengers, offering many features of Vande Bharat trains at a much lower fare. He also noted the success of Namo Bharat trains and announced that the Vande Bharat Sleeper is expected to be launched by September.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, PM Modi will flag off three Vande Bharat Express trains at KSR Railway Station at around 11 am. He will then inaugurate the Yellow Line of Bangalore Metro and take a ride from RV Road (Ragigudda) to Electronic City metro station.
At around 1 pm, he will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for urban connectivity projects in Bengaluru, including the 19-km Yellow Line from RV Road to Bommasandra under Metro Phase-2, worth about ₹7,160 crore. With its opening, the operational metro network in Bengaluru will cross 96 km.
The PM will also lay the foundation stone for the 44-km Bangalore Metro Phase-3 project, worth over ₹15,610 crore, which will have 31 elevated stations and serve residential, industrial, commercial, and educational hubs.
The three Vande Bharat trains to be flagged off from Bengaluru include services to Belagavi, Amritsar–Sri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, and Nagpur (Ajni)–Pune, aimed at boosting regional connectivity and cutting travel time.
