The Task Force on Economic Development for Swarna Andhra Pradesh @2047 has asked the State government to focus on making agriculture climate change resilient by developing and distributing more climate-tolerant crop varieties. It wanted to the State government to consider replicating the Sri City model in other parts of the State to promote electronics and semiconductor industries.

It also suggested the promotion of a Hitech city along the proposed ring road around Amaravati covering AI, semiconductors and other Hitech industrial hubs.

Climate change

“Given that Andhra Pradesh is largely an agrarian economy and mainly rainfed, it remains vulnerable to climate-related vagaries. The damage caused by the floods in 2024 are a testament to this situation. Therefore, the State needs clear strategies to combat climate change related impact on its economy,” the report said.

The State should also provide assured credit facility, including for tenant farmers; insurance against crop failures; and greater investments in irrigation infrastructure,” it said.

The State should set up distinct commodity-wise clusters with a focus on high-yield horticulture crop varieties for exports and establish large vegetable and fruit clusters near main consumption centres such as Bengaluru, Chennai, and Hyderabad with efficient supply chains.

To make agriculture more remunerative, it should also promote increased adoption of technologies such as soil sensors, GPS technology, drones, and agricultural robots.

The report also wanted the State government to fast-track the development of food processing clusters and food parks, including nano food parks, and develop common facilities in existing food processing clusters, and construct cold chains.

Electronics sector

The Taskforce asked the State government to focus on manufacturing of high-end electronics such as semiconductors, fabs, display units, energy storage and solar cells.

“We need to focus on fab units and promote research, development and design in the semiconductors value chain,” he said.
