As we approach the first round of the 2025 NFL draft (8ET/6MT tonight), the Denver Broncos are said to be a contender to trade up for a splash move.
The Athletic’s Dianna Russini tweeted on Thursday afternoon that “[t]he phone lines are getting busier” as the first round gets closer. Russini then added: “The Broncos and Texans are attempting to move up the draft order, while the Giants are trying to acquire a second first-round pick at the back end of the round.”
This contradicts Russini’s previous reporting that Denver was more likely to stay put at No. 20 or trade down than trade up. Perhaps she’s received new information.
Meanwhile, KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis reported earlier today that “if Broncos do make a trade from No. 20, it’s more likely to be a trade back than up.” ESPN’s Adam Schefter also reported that Denver has received trade calls about moving down.
The Broncos are sitting right above the quarterback-needy Pittsburgh Steelers (No. 21), so Denver might be able to fetch a handsome return if they trade down with a QB-needy team that wants to jump above Pittsburgh.
So will the Broncos trade up to land a top prospect, or move down to add more draft capital? The answer depends on who you ask. We’ll find out for sure in a few hours.
