Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah addressing the gathering on the occasion, other officials seen on stage
SAP Labs India’s new 41-acre Innovation Park in Devanahalli is not just a workplace, but stands as a symbol of Karnataka’s ambition to lead as India’s technology and innovation powerhouse, said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
Inaugurating the campus on Monday, he described it as a defining moment in the State’s transformation from an IT capital to a hub for AI, quantum computing, and deep tech. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw echoed this sentiment, highlighting India’s rapid technological strides through public-private collaborations in AI infrastructure and semiconductor design.
Addressing the gathering on the occasion, the Karnataka CM said, “From being the IT capital of India, Bengaluru has evolved into the country’s knowledge capital, AI capital, and even the Quantum capital. We are leading the way not just in software, but in deep technologies that will define the 21st century — quantum computing, AI, ML, and Industry 4.0.
The SAP Labs India Innovation Park is an affirmation of that vision representing their deep trust in Karnataka’s capability, credibility, and commitment to excellence.”
He highlighted that Karnataka contributes over 8 per cent to India’s GDP and leads in IT exports with a 35 per cent share. The State is home to more than 40 per cent of India’s electronics and R&D exports, over 500 Global Capability Centers (GCCs), 18,000-plus start-ups, and 40 per cent of the Unicorns.
Devanahalli, he said, is emerging as the next major hub in Karnataka’s innovation ecosystem.
“Since 1998, SAP Labs India, headquartered in Bengaluru, has grown to become SAP’s largest R&D facility outside Germany, a shining example of our State’s role in global innovation. This campus, designed to house 15,000 professionals in the long term, will strengthen Karnataka’s position as India’s innovation workforce engine. It is a milestone in our mission to create high-value jobs and opportunities for our youth,” he added.
Delivering a keynote address at the event, Minister of Electronics & Information Technology, Railways, Information & Broadcasting Ashwini Vaishnaw said that the campus, slated to be one of SAP’s largest offices globally, is an achievement for Bengaluru, the country’s IT capital.
He stated that India is on course to become the world’s third-largest economy. Over the past 11 years, electronics manufacturing has expanded sixfold, while electronics exports have grown eightfold. From having no semiconductor industry in the past, the country now has six fabrication units under construction, with production of the first made-in-India chip set to begin soon.
“Our focus is on developing technologies and becoming a product nation. While in some countries, technology is in the hands of a few large companies, in India, we have consciously decided to democratise technology. This campus reflects global confidence in India’s talent and innovation ecosystem. It will further boost India’s position as a trusted technology partner,” he said.
