The Silicon Beach Program (SBP) — a section-8 company, which is a grouping of like-minded people from diverse fields, who are pooling in their resources to promote economic growth of Coastal Karnataka using technology industry as a growth catalyst – has launched a ‘HomeComing’ platform, an online portal to support experienced professionals in returning to Coastal Karnataka helping them rediscover careers and a better quality of life in the region.
Speaking at the launch of the platform in Mangaluru on Saturday, Rohith Bhat, SBP Convenor and Founder of wrkwrk, 99Games and Robosoft, said SBP recently conducted a survey with over 2,000 global respondents to measure the propensity of seasoned professionals with Coastal Karnataka connections to return to their roots.
He said that over 95 per cent of professionals evinced a clear interest in returning, if suitable opportunities exist.
As more companies shift to ‘Silicon Beach of India’, they are looking to hire experienced professionals. This platform will help such companies to quickly fill those roles and scale quickly, he said.
Experienced professionals working in metros are tired of the traffic, water, pollution issues that are seriously degrading their quality of life. If the right opportunities exist, they will consider shifting back to a familiar region, he said.
Stating that ‘HomeComing’ initiative is transformational and unique, he said SBP’s goal is to grow the local tech economy and create more opportunities. As more companies realise the talent advantages of the region, they will seek experienced professionals with a local touch and this platform aids in that. Many professionals want to reconnect with their roots and make a lasting impact in the communities that shaped them.

He said that over 40 new companies have set up operations in ‘Silicon Beach of India’ in the past two years, creating over 8,000 jobs.
The SBP aims to develop the 300-km-long Karnataka coast starting from Mangaluru in Dakshina Kannada district to Karwar in Uttara Kannada district into the ‘Silicon Beach of India’. SBP works on creating a framework on building the future of the region, while preserving its culture without destroying the nature.
It seeks to transform the region from an education hub to a technology hub by enhancing local IT resources, talent, and infrastructure to provide world-class services and products with superior technology and talent.
Bhat said this will result in significant cost benefits for companies worldwide there by kickstarting a new age of growth for the region. “We encourage our diaspora to join us in shaping the future of Silicon Beach of India by starting operations here and create opportunities, so our talent stays where they belong,” he said.
Captain Brijesh Chowta, Member of Parliament from Dakshina Kannada, who launched the ‘HomeComing’ platform, highlighted the growing opportunities in Mangaluru, and how the city has earned its place as one of the safest in India. ‘Silicon Beach of India’ is a place where people can build their careers without losing the warmth and balance of community life, he said.
The region’s real strength lies in its people and the spirit of collaboration between industry, government and the community, he added.
