It was not the way that Steve Angeli wanted to see his Notre Dame football career go, but there will always be fond memories of what he accomplished in South Bend.
Not many will forget when he filled in as the starter in the 2023 Sun Bowl, guiding Notre Dame to an impressive 40-8 victory over Oregon State, while throwing three touchdown passes. How about when Angeli filled in for an injured Riley Leonard during the Orange Bowl against Penn State in the College Football Playoff, guiding the Irish to a field goal which would ultimately be the winning margin.
On Saturday evening, Angeli went to social media and thanked Notre Dame Nation for an amazing three years with the program, which you can see below. He cherished his “incredible journey” with the team, and will leave as a graduate of the university.
Angeli stood for everything that Notre Dame football is about, and while we all wanted him to stay, he had to do what we best for this career. We wish nothing but that best for Steve at his next football home.
