USC stubs its toe against Hawaii, now has to recover vs Gonzaga
USC baseball has been on a roll of late, having won each of their past five Big Ten series. On Tuesday night, however, the Trojans’ winning ways hit a halt, as USC fell 5-4 to Hawaii at LMU’s Page Stadium.
The Trojans scored four runs in the bottom of the third inning and led 4-3 for most of the night. In the top of the ninth, however, Hawaii’s Ben Ziegler-namoa hit a two-run single to put his team in front, and USC was unable to even things in the bottom of the frame, giving the Trojans the loss.
Fortunately for USC, they will not have to wait very long to try and get the bad taste of the loss out of their mouths. The Trojans are back in action Thursday night when they welcome Gonzaga to Great Park in Irvine for the start of a three game series.
At 23-13, USC is currently experiencing its best season in many years. However, the Trojans will need to turn it up down the stretch run if they want to push for the program’s first NCAA Tournament appearance in a decade.
