Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s husband Robert Vadra’s questioning by the Enforcement Directorate is over for now in the Haryana land deal case but he remains under the agency’s scanner in two more cases of money laundering.
Vadra is also facing pending case related to a land deal in Rajasthan and the arms dealer Sanjay Bhandari case
.
ED sources said that in the Haryana land deal, the sleuths will now grill witnesses to gather more information and evidence in the case.
For cross-questioning with other witnesses or suspects, agency officials did not rule out Vadra’s questioning at an appropriate time.
In the Sanjay Bhandari money laundering case, the ED had earlier alleged that Vadra was a close associate of CC Thampi, who worked for the absconding arms dealer.
However, India lost the extradition case against Bhandari in a UK court over the latter’s plea that his offloading to Delhi will lead to human rights violations.
On April 8, the High Court in London also refused India’s plea to appeal against the verdict in Britain’s Supreme Court.
If India fails to get Bhandari, it will weaken the case against Vadra as well, believe former agency officials.
In the third case, the agency is probing Vadra linked company — Sky Light Hospitality’s alleged involvement in the purchase of land parcel in Bikaner.
In 2015, the ED registered a case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) on the basis of FIRs registered by the Rajasthan police after the local tehsildar complained of alleged forgery in the Bikaner land deal.
