The 2025 U.S. Open is still in its early phases, but the 156-man field has already felt the wrath of the pristine, difficult Oakmont Country Club. One of the United States’ most notable and head-scratching courses, it only allowed 10 players to finish their opening rounds under par, and as the second round has gotten underway Friday, it’s possible even fewer names will have red figures by the time the weekend approaches.

The Western Pennsylvania grinder is hosting the U.S. Open for a record 10th time, but given the tournament has not been held in this Pittsburgh suburb for the last nine years, many are playing it for the first time — particularly on a stage this large. The grounds are filled to capacity with fans, and they were undoubtedly keen to see how the likes of Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy and Bryson DeChambeau fair.

In the early going, the answer for all three — and other notable stars — has been “none too well.” Scheffler is battling just to make the cut — it would be his first miss at a major since 2022 — while McIlroy and DeChambeau have yet to begin their second rounds. Even Jon Rahm and Brooks Koepka, who were in contention Thursday, ejected during their first nine Friday and now must battle to stay in the mix entering the weekend. Follow continued 2025 U.S. Open leaderboard live updates and coverage throughout Round 2 at Oakmont.
