The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has accused Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MLC Alapati Rajendra of making a brazen attempt to seize five acres of government land belonging to Satavahana College in Vijayawada.
Addressing the media at the party’s central office on Friday, former MLA Malladi Vishnu alleged that Mr. Rajendra used intimidation and threats to take control of the property. He claimed that the TDP leader warned the college’s Principal, Vankayalapati Srinivas, of “serious consequences,” including a threat to “eliminate his family,” if he did not cooperate.
“Why is Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu silent while his party leaders are openly engaging in such acts?” Mr. Vishnu asked, accusing the government of turning a blind eye. Despite formal complaints lodged by the principal, the police have not acted, fuelling concerns over political protection and law enforcement negligence, he said.
Recalling that the YSRCP had earlier fought to protect the college’s land from encroachment, Mr. Vishnu criticised the TDP government’s inaction since assuming office. “The government must immediately take possession of the land to prevent illegal occupation,” he demanded. Calling the incident a threat to democratic norms, Mr. Vishnu assured the college’s faculty and students of the YSRCP’s full support. “The people of Vijayawada are watching closely,” he said, urging the State government to act swiftly to secure the property and uphold public trust.
