Four students escaped unhurt after a bus of a private school met with an accident at Karumathampatti near Coimbatore on Wednesday (October 22, 2025).

The police said the bus involved in the accident belonged to Sri Chaitanya Techno School at Neelambur.

The accident occurred on Wednesday morning when the bus was plying with four students on the Salem-Kochi highway near Karumathampatti, with Maheswaran of Elachipalayam at the wheel. According to the police, the bus collided with a divider separating the highway from a service road as the driver tried to navigate the vehicle onto the service road.

Locals and other motorists attended to the students, who were transported to the school on another bus. The Karumathampatti police reached the spot and barricaded the bus involved in the accident.

Some of the locals raised concerns on the maintenance of the bus, citing its worn-out tyres. They alleged the bus skidded on the wet road due to this.

An official from the school, however, claimed that all buses of the institution were maintained properly with adequate checks at regular intervals. The official added that the bus, which bore the name of a college, was taken over by the school.

District Collector Pavankumar G. Giriyappanavar said allegations on poor maintenance of the bus would be investigated.
