Sir C.R. Reddy’s role in transformation of AU highlighted

Former IAS officer E.A.S. Sarma said that many in Andhra University (AU) tried to shift the university to Vijayawada in the past, but it was only Sir C.R. Reddy, the founding Vice-Chancellor (V-C) of AU, who stood firm in stopping such a proposal.

Mr. Sarma was the chief guest at the “Visionaries of Andhra University: Role of 19 Vice Chancellors in 100 Years” book launch event organised by the Society for Integrated Development and Research (SIDAR), in association with Dr. Lankapalli Bullaiah College, here on Wednesday.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Sarma highlighted the role of Sir C.R. Reddy in the transformation of AU in many aspects. Acharya Nagarjuna University (ANU) former V-C V. Bala Mohan Das, who was one of the authors of the book, said that of the 19 V-Cs, 14 of the V-Cs were from Humanities background, while the other V-Cs were from Sciences and Engineering backgrounds.

RGUKT former chancellor and SIDAR president K.C. Reddy mentioned that the centenary university was led by visionary leaders. Dr. Lankapalli Bullayya College secretary and correspondent G. Madhu Kumar said that he studied in AU during the golden jubilee celebrations and was proud to be a part of centenary celebrations. He highlighted that the initial classes of Dr. Lankapalli Bullayya College in 1973 were started in the AU campus and the college later acquired a land and moved to the present location.

AU former V-Cs Beela Satya Narayana and G.S.N. Raju, Dr. BR Ambedkar University former V-C S.V. Sudhakar, Krishna University former V-C S. Rama Krishna, Rajah’s College (Bobbili) former English department head S. Vinaya Bhushan Rao, and Writers Academy chairman V.V. Ramana Murthy, shared their insights on the university as alumni.
