Yercaud to remain out of bounds to tourists and heavy vehicles till October 24

With Salem district receiving incessant rainfall, the district administration has banned movement of tourists and heavy vehicles to Yercaud as a precautionary measure.

A release from District Collector R. Brindha Devi stated that tourist and heavy vehicles are barred from traversing the Salem–Yercaud ghat road, while four-wheelers, tourist vehicles, and heavy vehicles are prohibited on the Salem–Kuppanur–Yercaud road from 7 p.m. on October 22 (Wednesday) to October 24, 2025 (Friday).

The Collector said that with the onset of the Northeast monsoon, the district administration has undertaken continuous precautionary measures. Yercaud has been receiving heavy rain, resulting in water flowing across several stretches of hill roads.

Considering the likelihood of further rain in the coming days and potential road damage in certain stretches, movement of vehicles has been suspended.

The Collector urged tourists to defer their visit to Yercaud until October 24, and appealed to the public to extend their full cooperation with the administration’s safety directives.
