Dalit homes attacked at Kabisthalam in Thanjavur district, four arrested

The Kabisthalam police are investigating a complaint of an attack on houses of Dalits at Kabisthalam by another group on October 22.

According to Simon of Ilaignar Aran, Thanjavur, the crime was committed around 5 p.m. on Wednesday when a group barged into the Dalit settlement on Mettutheru, Kabisthalam, and started damaging the properties. The group went on a rampage ignoring the pleas of women and attacked two-wheelers parked on the street.

Stating that a complaint had been lodged with the Kabisthalam police by Manjula of Mettutheru and four persons have been arrested, Simon claimed that around 20 to 30 persons were involved in the attack on properties of Dalits. Further, “Pound Kalai”, the key person involved in the rampage, was not arrested, he said.

Alleging that the revenue authorities, who ought to assess the damages caused in the attack, had not yet visited the village, Simon called upon the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin to ensure that the real culprits were arrested.

Meanwhile, the police said that they were seized of the matter and were interrogating the suspects as well as the victims.
