CSL delivers warship INS Mahe to Indian Navy

Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) has delivered the first of the eight anti-submarine warfare shallow water craft (ASW-SWC) indigenously designed and built by it to the Indian Navy.

The warship named INS Mahe has been designed and constructed as per the Classification Rules of Det Norske Veritas (DNV).

The 78-metre-long warship is the largest Indian Naval warship propelled by a diesel engine-waterjet combination. The ship has been designed for underwater surveillance, search and rescue operations and low intensity maritime operations, according to a communication.

The ship is capable of undertaking ASW operations in coastal waters, along with advanced mine-laying capabilities. The induction of ASW-SWC ships would significantly boost the shallow water anti-submarine warfare capabilities of the Indian Navy, a CSL spokesperson said.

The acceptance form was signed by S. Harikrishnan, Director (Operations), CSL, and Commander Amit Chandra Choubey, Commanding Officer (Designate), INS Mahe, on Thursday (October 23, 2025) in the presence of Rear Admiral R. Adhisrinivasan, Chief Staff Officer (Technical), Western Naval Command, Commodore Anup Menon, Warship Production Superintendent, Kochi, and other senior officials of the Indian Navy and CSL.
