Salem and Namakkal districts register heavy rainfall

Heavy rain lashed Salem and Namakkal districts for the second day on Wednesday (October 22, 2025) and in the past 24 hours that ended at 6 a.m. on Thursday (October 23 2025), Namakkal and Salem districts registered 423 mm and 317.10 mm of rainfall, respectively.

Throughout Wednesday, rain poured in various parts of Salem and Namakkal districts and continued until midnight. Rainwater stagnated at various places in Salem Corporation. At Yercaud, due to continuous rain for the past few days, landslips were reported on the Kuppanur-Yercaud Ghat Road.

As the district administration banned vehicle movement in Yercaud from Wednesday to Friday, the police, at the entry points in the foothills, only allowed local vehicles. Tourists were sent back at the check-post. A tree was also uprooted in Vazhavandhi on the Yercaud-Kuppanur Ghat road and fell over an electric pole. In the impact, power supply was disrupted in more than 10 hamlets.

In Mettur municipality, rainwater entered more than 10 houses at MGR Nagar. Similarly, at Kolli Hills in Namakkal district, a tree was uprooted at the 65th hairpin bend. Vehicular movement was affected and on the information, officials at the Highway Department rushed to the spot and cleared the traffic after two hours.

Salem district registered 317.10 mm of rainfall, including 67.4 mm in Mettur, 35 mm – Kariyakovil, 32.6 mm – Attur, 27.2 mm – Edappadi, 22 mm – Vazhapadi, 21.2 mm – Yercaud, 18.4 mm – Salem, 17 mm – Nathakarai, 14 mm – Thammampatti, 14 mm – Yethapur, 12 mm – Aanaimaduvu, 9 mm – Omalur, 9mm – Danishpet, 7 mm – Veeraganur, 6.3 mm – Sankari, and 5 mm – Gangavalli.

Likewise, Namakkal district registered 423 mm of rainfall, including 90 mm each at Mohanur and Namakkal, 61.20 mm -Senthamangalam, 35 mm each – Kolli Hills Semmedu and Paramathi Velur, 22 mm – Rasipuram, 20 mm – Erumapatti, 19 mm – Collectorate, 18 mm – Tiruchengode, 17 mm – Puduchatram, 12.60 mm – Mangalapuram, and 3.20 mm – Komarapalayam.
