Intermittent showers continue in Kanniyakumari; overcast skies and drizzle in Thoothukudi


Intermittent showers continued across Kanniyakumari district, while overcast skies with light drizzle prevailed in Thoothukudi on Thursday.

From the early hours of Thursday, various parts in Kanniyakumari district received intermittent showers and isolated rainfall. From the beginning of the northeast monsoon, the western ghats and catchment areas in Kanniyakumari district have been experiencing good rainfall.

Water level in Pechiparai dam stood at 41.82 feet against 48 feet with an inflow of 639 cusecs and discharge of 489 cusecs. Water level in Perunchani dam stood at 65.1 feet. The total capacity of the dam is 77 feet and it had an inflow of 523 cusecs with no discharge.

As a part of monsoon preparations, Kanniyakumari SP R. Stalin inspected flood rescue equipment and preparedness of the rescue teams at the Armed Reserve camp in Nagercoil on Wednesday. Mr. Stalin has instructed the rescue team to remain vigilant and to promptly engage in rescue operations in case of emergencies.

The rainfall recorded in Kanniyakumari district ending at 6 a.m. on Thursday was as follows (in mm): Kottaram 12.6, Mylaudy 20.2, Nagercoil 30.2, Surulacode 16.2, Kurunthancode 30.4, Chittar I 15.4, Colachel 22.2, Thuckalay 13.8 and Kuzhithurai recorded 13.4 mm of rainfall.

In Thoothukudi, an overcast sky prevailed in various parts of the district with light drizzling. During the past 24 hours ending at 6:30 a.m. on Thursday Thoothukudi had received a total of 41 mm rainfall with Kalugumalai receiving 14mm, Kadamabur 14mm and Ettayapuram 9 mm rainfall.
