Progress of government schemes reviewed at DISHA meeting in Kanniyakumari

Kanniyakumari constituency’s Lok Sabha member Vijay Vasanth reviewed progress of various ongoing government schemes at the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting held at the district Collectorate on Friday.

At the meeting Mr. Vasanth highlighted that the district has a total of 5,06,383 Soil Health Card holders, adding that the SHC scheme is being effectively implemented across the district. He noted that under this scheme samples from farmers’ land are collected and tested to assess nutrient and mineral content.

He also enquired about the implementation of key agricultural schemes including Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana, National Mission of Natural Farming and others aimed at improving the farmers’ welfare in the region.

Emphasising the importance of livelihood support, he urged the officials to monitor and streamline work under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MNREGS) to ensure steady employment for rural workers.

Speaking about the welfare schemes, he pointed out that under the Antyodaya Anna Yojana Scheme, Kanniyakumari district has 60,702 family cards benefitting around 2.30 lakh individuals. In addition, around 2.36 lakh card holders are getting benefitted under the PHH ration card category. He directed the concerned officials to explore the possibility of expanding coverage under Antyodaya Anna Yojana Scheme, to include more deserving beneficiaries.

Mr. Vasanth also directed the officials to repair damaged walls, toilets and roofs of the schools to ensure the safety of the children. He noted that the Poshan Abhiyan scheme is being implemented across the district, and urged the officials to make Kanniyakumari, a malnutrition free district.

He further emphasised that a tribal medical unit is operational in the district to serve the residents of 47 tribal hamlets, ensuring better access to health care facilities.

The meeting also reviewed the progress of works under various schemes including AMRUT, Clean India 2.0, Janani Suraksha Yojana scheme, and others.

Kanniyakumari Collector R. Alagumeena, Padmanabhapuram Sub Collector Vinay Kumar Meena, Colachel MLA J.G. Prince, Vilavancode MLA Tharahai Cuthbert and other officials were present.
