A total of 112 school teachers from across the city were felicitated with the Vocational Excellence Award at the Aasan Virudhu event, which was organised by Rotary International’s District Vocational Services Team at the Ethiraj College for Women on Saturday.
The awards recognise teachers with a minimum of 10 years of experience, who improved the pass percentage, inspired and motivated them to participate and win in inter-school science fairs and competitions, and provided special coaching free of cost. A total of 70 teachers from government schools and 42 teachers from private schools received the awards.
Minister for Higher Education Govi. Chezhiaan distributed the awards, and said, “Honouring the purest profession brings me a lot of joy.”
V.M. Muralidharan, chairman, Ethiraj College for Women, said, “As citizens, we all owe a lot to our teachers who play an integral part in our lives.”
Actor Damu, Aasan Virudhu chairman Shabeer Nazeer, Rotary District Governor D. Devendran, and other members from Rotary spoke on the occasion.
