The Central Crime Branch (CCB) police arrested a Bangladeshi national who attempted to travel abroad using an Indian passport obtained through forged documents.
The police said that on October 19, during routine verification of travel documents of passengers bound for Abu Dhabi at the Chennai International Airport, the immigration officer found that the passport produced by passenger Uttam Uraw was fake. Upon further inquiry, it was discovered that he was a Bangladeshi national.
Following this, the immigration authorities handed him over to the city police and lodged a complaint. Based on the complaint, the CCB registered a case and initiated an investigation.
Investigations revealed that the detained passenger was Uttam Kumar, 25, of Bangladesh, who had illegally entered India in 2015 and had been residing in West Bengal. There, he allegedly created fake documents — including Aadhaar card, voter ID, and other Indian identification documents — under the name Uttam Uraw. Using these forged documents, he obtained a fake Indian passport and was attempting to travel to Abu Dhabi.
The CCB team arrested Uttam Kumar and seized the fake Indian passport, Aadhaar card, voter ID card, PAN card, Bangladeshi identity card, and a mobile phone from him.
