Four persons were killed when the car they were travelling in rammed a tree on the side of Siruvani Road at Perur Chettipalayam late on Friday.
The police said two of the deceased have been identified as Harish, 21, and Prakash, 22, of Thanjavur district, who were employed at a car wash centre in Perur.
The police said the owner and manager of the car wash centre were on the way to identify the deceased persons. The police suspect that the remaining deceased could also be employees of the same establishment.
According to the police, a fifth person, who suffered severe injuries, was in an unstable condition. Further investigation is on.
